The Fig+Sage Metamorphisis :: Happy Three Year Anniversary To Us!!

Did you know this week we are celebrating our three year anniversary of Fig+Sage?!?  We can't believe it's been three years since we started sharing our finds and info with the world.  We couldn't believe it when we had 50 page views per month much less the almost 50,000 we had last month.  Wow.  Sometimes it seems surreal that people on the other side of the world are reading this little blog of ours.

We thought it would be fun to show you some of our early drawings when we were playing around with name ideas.  Back in March of 2008 I took this picture (above) after sketching out name ideas for our new site and emailed it to my sister to see what she thought.  Since I'm a very visual person it became necessary to get the colored pencils and graph paper out and see how our name would look.  I'm no artist but it always helps me to get ideas out of my head and onto paper.  (I have no idea what was going on with the mid-century modern slash spoon doodles on the right side of the paper...)
I recall talking on the phone with my sister and we would say the name over and over slowly "fig and sage, fig AND sage, FIG and SAGE" and then faster "figandsage, figANDsage, FIGandSAGE".  Does it sound weird?  Will people like it?  We decided we liked it and hoped others would too.  We liked that it could relate to everything from healthy food to healthy beauty, that it made us instantly think "fresh" and that the properties of those two specific plants have feminine implications as well; the fig represents femininity and fertility and sage has been used for centuries to cleanse and beautify.  At first we thought green and brown (or purple-ish brown) like the actual colors of a fig fruit and sage leaf might work but then that idea quickly got tossed out because 99.99999% of all "green" blogs were green and brown back then (many still are) and we wanted to be anything but typical.  So we quickly embraced a bright, cheerful color that made us smile: pink.

After the name was mutually decided upon we bought our domain name ($9), signed up for a Blogger blog (free), had our first blog banner created ($15) and published our very first post

For those of you who have been with us from the beginning you may remember that we used the banner (above) for a little over one year until we gave the site a makeover with a new fresh look:

As we enter our third year of blogging, the wheels have already been spinning for quite some time as to what the next Fig+Sage phase will look like and if you haven't already provided your thoughts about what you love or what you'd like to see improved, we'd love it if you would click on over to our Reader Survey and let us know your real thoughts so we can continue to make this a site that really works for you.

Whether you're new to Fig+Sage or have been a fan for the last few years, please know we are grateful for each and every last one of you, for the people you've recommended to us and for the nice things you've said or written to or about us.  We read every single comment and email.  If you have questions or thoughts for us, please leave them in the comments below and we'll reply as soon as we can.  Thank you so much for reading our little corner of the blogosphere!
